Highlights of BetMGM Sports
β Variety of online golf bets

β Smooth user experience
2. BetVictor Sports
I had a great experience with BetVictor’s golf betting options. They offer a comprehensive menu of bet types, including moneylines, point spreads, totals, futures, and parlays.
I found their odds margins to be competitive, typically ranging from 3% to 4% for major leagues, which was better than other betting sites I’ve used.
When I used their platform to place bets, I found it very user-friendly. I was able to make multiple futures and live golf bets with ease.
I also downloaded BetVictor’s app, which was very convenient for placing bets on the go. The app had quick loading times and easy navigation, which made it easy to place bets whenever I wanted.
BetVictor Sports accepts 8 payment methods, including Neteller, Skrill, and Paysafe, which made it easy for me to stake wagers and get paid. I appreciated their fast turnaround for withdrawals, which typically reflected in my account within 40 minutes to 2 days, depending on my bank or online payment system.
I highly recommend BetVictor to any golf bettor looking for a reliable and easy-to-use platform.

Highlights of BetVictor Sports
β Competitive odds
β Unique betting features
β Various US Open tennis betting markets
β User-Friendly Mobile App and Website
3. Northstar Bets Sports
After spending hours reviewing this sportsbook, I find NorthStar Bets to be a reliable platform for tennis betting in Ontario. With its coverage of Grand Slam tournaments, ATP, WTA, and lower-tier events such as Challenger and ITF circuits, it offers a wide range of betting opportunities, making it one of the best options.
The variety of betting markets, particularly in-play betting, adds to the excitement of tennis matches, allowing for strategic wagers during the dynamic flow of the game.
What makes NorthStar Bets stand out is its competitive odds, which are essential for long-term betting success.
The platform’s user interface is streamlined and efficient, especially on the mobile app. It makes it easy to navigate and place bets, particularly for live betting and following matches across different time zones.
Northstar Bets offers a straightforward platform that simplifies deposits, wagers, and withdrawals. The sportsbook’s platform is easy to navigate, making it perfect for those who are new to golf betting sites. The app is available on both iOS and Android.
I must note that Northstar Bets is the only top golf betting site that accepts American Express, which is sure to attract high rollers. However, it does not offer PayPal and Skrill as payment options, which reduces the number of payment methods available.
While NorthStar Bets is an excellent platform, there is room for improvement. A broader range of specialized tennis betting options and the introduction of live streaming would significantly enhance the experience, making informed betting decisions easier.

4. LeoVegas Sports
LeoVegas Sports is our top sportsbook pick for mobile users seeking a convenient approach to I recently stumbled upon LeoVegas Sports, and I have to say, it’s been a great choice for my golf betting needs.
What’s even better is that LeoVegas has top-notch iOS and Android apps that make mobile betting a pleasant experience. I can place bets on the go and never have to worry about missing out on any of the action. One of the things that really impressed me about LeoVegas Sports is their extensive range of in-play betting options for tennis.
During major tennis events like the ATP and WTA tours, there are so many live betting choices that really enhance the overall betting experience. As someone who likes to make strategic wagers based on the flow of the match, I find this feature particularly beneficial.
However, one downside to LeoVegas Sports is that their payment methods are somewhat limited. Compared to other sportsbooks, their options for deposits and withdrawals are restricted, which can be a drawback for some bettors who prefer more financial transaction methods.
I think LeoVegas Sports is a solid platform for tennis betting, especially for those who use their mobile devices to place bets. The in-play betting options are impressive and can potentially increase the chances of a win. Despite the constraint in payment methods, the benefits of using LeoVegas Sports for tennis betting make it a worthwhile option for enthusiasts.
If you’re interested, you can check out our expert review of LeoVegas Sports to learn more about what makes this bookmaker stand out in Ontario.

5. BetRivers Sports
As someone who has been betting on tennis for more than 10 years now, I have come to appreciate the benefits of using BetRivers Sports.
They have an extensive range of betting options for tennis, including parlays and prop bets for individual tournaments. This is particularly appealing to me as I take a strategic approach to my betting.
One thing I love about the platform is the ability to stake parlays and props on a single tennis event. This has helped me mitigate risks while maximizing potential returns. I believe that if you are risk averse, you will appreciate this approach because it improves your chances of winning on a weekly basis.
Another aspect of BetRivers Sports that stands out to me is their well-organized live betting section. This is crucial for tennis betting, given the dynamic nature of the sport. The live betting options are intuitive and offer various choices, making it easy to place bets as the action unfolds in a match.

More Top Golf Betting Sites & Apps in Ontario
You’re spoiled for choice when betting on golf in Ontario. I recommend checking out the following Ontario online sportsbooks that offer good odds and betting markets for golf events all year round.
β Bet Markets & Odds
I analyze the number of bet markets and the attractiveness of odds offered by sportsbooks before recommending any golf betting site to our readers. My job is to help you find the best golf odds to maximize your earning potential.
The better the odds are, the more likely we are to consider that online golf bookmaker for our readers.
β Trust & Safety
Sportsbooks’ trust and safety ratings are among our top priorities for readers. I have tested the integrity of numerous online golf bookies to ensure they abide by Ontario sports betting legislation and honour their odds and wagers.
All sportsbooks recommended on our site are licensed and abide by their terms and conditions.
β Mobile App
Since bettors are constantly on the go, the performance of sportsbooks’ mobile apps contributes greatly to their overall ranking.
I look for user-friendly mobile apps that simplify the sign-up, deposit, wager, and withdrawal process. This makes it easy for golf bettors to place wagers and get paid immediately.
Another area I review on golf betting apps is the ease of access to golf betting tips, news, and odds. These are the minimum features to make my list as I seek golf betting sites that go above and beyond for their bettors.
For example, a website that includes a live broadcast of PGA Tour, DP World Tour, or LPGA Tour events earns a higher rating than one with no live updates, forcing bettors to find information elsewhere.
β Payment Options of Your Choice & Fast Payouts
With an abundance of payment systems, it is imperative that sportsbooks offer bettors flexibility to deposit and withdraw. Every sportsbook with golf betting in Ontario that I reviewed accepts different methods, but I prefer and recommend platforms with multiple options.
I find that BetVictor is the best option in this department, with 8 payment methods accepted.
After placing a winning bet, you want your money as quickly and seamlessly as possible. My research shows that many first-time bettors are skeptical of placing bets because they are concerned about delayed payouts and the risk of never receiving their winnings. I keep an eye on golf betting sites that deliver minimal delays and ensure a hassle-free withdrawal process to pay you what is rightfully yours.
β Customer Service
The sportsbook sites I recommend generally run smoothly and offer an outstanding user experience.
If something goes wrong, their customer service teams have all proven the ability to resolve issues and keep bettors satisfied.
The golf betting sites on this page offer a robust FAQ section to help you overcome any issues efficiently. There is a backup option to access their 24/7 live chat assistance on their website, mobile applications, and social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. As a final backup, you can contact the customer service email address for further assistance.
1οΈβ£ Choose Your Preferred Sportsbook
I highly recommend choosing a reliable and trustworthy sportsbook as the first step in golf betting. When it comes to selecting your preferred sportsbook, it is important to find one that best suits your needs.
If you’re new to golf gambling, I suggest opting for an easy-to-use platform like NorthStar Bets. This user-friendly platform is perfect for beginners and offers a great introduction to golf betting.
If you’re an experienced sports bettor but new to golf gambling, I recommend considering a more robust setup like BetMGM Sports. This platform offers a wide range of golf betting options and is designed to cater to the needs of experienced bettors. With its advanced features and tools, you’ll have access to all the information you need to make informed betting decisions.
2οΈβ£ Create Your Bettor Account
You often find the registration tab at the top right on a sportsbook homepage. Click on the button and input the relevant data. The first step requires your preferred email, a password, and personal details to verify your age and location.
Some sites simplify the sign-up process by allowing you to log in with your PayPal or Yahoo Sports account. I prefer keeping the accounts separate and doing the manual sign-up.
Deposit Minimum Amount
Once signed up, you need to deposit a minimum amount into your account, typically around C$5 to C$10, depending on the sportsbook. The bookies prescribe a maximum deposit limit as well to encourage responsible gambling. I find that most maximum limits exceed what the average player will deposit.
You can deposit funds into your betting wallet using a bank, PayPal, Skrill, or an automatic debit from your credit card. Depositing funds into your wallet takes 1 to 2 working days, but it is a safe way to control your gambling. If you prefer directness, you can link your debit or credit card to immediately start wagering.
3οΈβ£ Choose Golf Betting Market
Navigate to the golf section on the sportsbook of your choice to find which bet markets they have available.
I see that the PGA Tour offers more bets than LIV and the DP World Tour, which is why I bet on it more.
4οΈβ£ Add Picks To Betslip
After clicking on your golf tour of choice, take a look at the bets on offer.
In my experience, backing an outright tournament winner gives me the best odds. However, it takes work to get that bet right.
π‘ A safer bet is to pick a top-five finisher, take a prop bet, or pick a match-up winner, where the odds of a payout are higher.
5οΈβ£ Follow The Event
Watch the golfers you bet on closely to help you with future decisions.
Watching the round is also an excellent idea for making in-play match-up bets, like which player will score lower on the next hole. Alternatively, you can pick a player to post a lower total score over 18 holes than their playing partners.
6οΈβ£ Withdraw Your Winning Bet
If you win your bet, the earnings are deposited into your wallet on the sportsbook platform. You can either leave the winnings in the wallet for future wagers or withdraw them to the account you provided when you registered.
I usually notice the withdrawal from most sportsbooks reflected in my account within 2 working days.
π‘ BetVictor has proved the fastest of the lot, with funds appearing in my account within two hours. BetMGM typically gets it to me in two days, but on occasion, it has taken up to five days.
High rollers attempting to take out large amounts may need to withdraw their balance over time. Keep in mind that some sportsbooks limit the withdrawal amount to protect their customers’ funds.
What Are The Different Types of Golf Ξets?
If you’re a golf betting enthusiast, you’re aware that you can place different types of bets on golf tournaments.
In this section, I will provide you with more information about the various types of golf bets so that you can make informed decisions when betting on your favourite golf events.
Gone are the days when betting on golf meant selecting one player to win the tournament. Today, you can bet on various aspects of the game, such as a player winning a hole or a round. You can predict which players will finish in the top 5, 10, or 20 positions for a specific tournament.
With online golf betting, you can enjoy the convenience of placing your bets from the comfort of your home while exploring different types of bets.
βοΈ Tournament Winner
Backing the tournament winner is one of the better bets to understand and place, but difficult to identify the best competition selections.
For instance, if Sungjae Im is priced at 3000, or 30/1, to win the Genesis Invitational, I receive $30 back for every $1 I gamble. If Sungjae won the tournament and I placed $10 on him, my winnings equate to $300.
Usually, the odds for a tournament winner are slightly better than you enjoy for hole prop bets, where you need not wait days to realize the outcome of your bet. Players with low odds of winning a tournament are typically in form or have performed well previously at that golf course.
βοΈ Who Will Finish in the Top 5
Golf bettors who lack the confidence to pick a winner outright can always play it safe and back a player to finish in the top 5.
If you have ever bet on horse racing, this is equivalent to making a place bet. In other words, you do not feel the golfer can win outright, but they can finish high and secure a top 5 position. Securing a top 5 finish is still a challenging feat but it’s far easier than picking an outright winner.
This is why the winnings are often less than if you had chosen the same player to win the event.
βοΈ Who Will Finish in the Top 10
A safer strategy than betting on an outright winner or top 5 finishers is to pick a golfer to finish in the top 10. Once again, the odds are less favourable than picking an outright tournament winner. However, it does offer a lower risk and is attractive to some bettors.
βοΈ Who Will Finish in the Top 20
Next, bettors can back golfers to finish in the top 20 of a tournament. Once again, the odds offered are lower than those for an outright winner or a top 5 or 10. However, it is a safer bet than picking a winner or a top 5 finisher. Depending on the site, a top-20 finish bet is sometimes the lowest-placing punt allowed.
βοΈ Who Will Finish in the Top 40
The final standing bet available to golf bettors is a top 40, which brings low odds and limited returns. Limited returns are warranted. Naturally, it is easier to pick a golfer to lose and finish in the top 40 than to win a tournament outright.
βοΈ Golf Player Nationality
Another recent addition to golf betting is backing the top player from a specific nation. For example, Canadian Adam Svensson, Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes, and Adam Hadwin are pencilled in on the tee sheet for a tournament.
Given his 2022 form, you could pick Svensson to end the weekend as the leading Canadian. Since Svensson is currently 12th on the FedEx Cup standings, his odds are lower than his counterparts Adam Hadwin and Corey Conners. These two players sit 59th and 86th on the table, highlighting their lacklustre form this season.
However, they offer superior odds to top the Canadian players compared to Svensson or 15th places Hughes.
βοΈ Matchup Winner
Matchup bets typically pit players from the same group together. Allowing you to back the winner of a round or hole between two or three players.
For example, Matt Kuchar tees it up with Shane Lowry and Chris Kirk, leaving you with three players to select. These bets typically revolve around the best score on a particular hole or the lowest round in the group.
For example, if I like Matt Kuchar’s chances against his peers, you can either back him to shoot lower on a specific hole than Lowry or Kirk or to deliver the lowest overall round. You can either pit Kuchar up against Lowry or Kirk.
Alternatively, you can back Kuchar to shoot lower than Lowry and Kirk with a 3-ball matchup bet. The odds for a 2-ball matchup are lower than a 3-ball matchup because it is easier to pick a golfer to beat another player than two.
Additionally, there is the round six shooters matchup. This format combines six random players from a round, and you determine who will stroke the lowest total for those 18 holes. Let’s say Lowry, Kirk, and Kuchar are pooled with Rory Mcilroy, Tiger Woods, and Jordan Spieth.
We must select the player who we think can shoot the lowest round. Given their tremendous form, Mcilroy and Spieth are hot favourites and have the lowest odds. On the other hand, Wood, Lowry, Kuchar, and Kirk carry a favourable price. Since you select one player from a group of six, the odds are often more flattering than in a 2 ball match.
βοΈ Round Leaders
Every golfer in the field is assigned a price to card the lowest total for that round.
The odds fluctuate during live play as a golfer shows promise or starts to implode. The better a golfer plays, the more bettors back them, and the lower prices go until it makes no sense to place the bet or the player carries an attractive price tag.
Picking a round leader is a popular form of golf betting as it gives bettors something to play for every day of a four-day golf tournament rather than waiting for the overall results. The end of round leader is the player who sits at the top of the leaderboard after each round.
βοΈ Live Betting
If you’re looking for a more exciting way to bet on golf, live golf betting is the way to go!
These bets are typically between players in the same group, encouraging 2 or 3 ball matchups. A 2-ball matchup sees you pick one player to win a hole or card a lower score than another. Conversely, a 3 ball matchup sees you pick one player in the group to dominate the rest.
For example, Corey Conners is paired with Lucas Glover and Camilo Villegas. I think the Canadian will post the lowest score on the next hole. He is priced at +125 to win, while Glover and Villegas sit at +180. I opt not to wager yet and wait for the outcome of the tee shot.
If Conners hits his drive into the woods on that hole and Glover and Villegas hit the fairway, his odds drop. Now, the sportsbook may have Conners at +250 to win the hole and Glover and Villegas tied on +150 for the win.
Wagering C$10 on Conners to win the hole at this stage would return C$36. Since his lie is not too bad, I place C$10 on him. The Canadian manages to birdie the hole while Glover and Villegas par it, giving me a C$36 return.
Had I staked the wager before the hole, I only would have earned C$22.50 on +125 odds. Since I took advantage of live betting, I received better odds and a higher payout.
βοΈ Parlays
A parlay bet sees a punter bet on multiple outcomes between the 1st tee box and 72nd green on the Sunday.
For example, you pick Rory McIlroy to beat Tiger Woods and Jon Rahm to defeat Max Homa in the British Open. To win your bet, McIlroy must defeat Woods, and Rahm repeats the feat against Homa.
If McIlroy wins and Rahm loses, your parlay bet is unsuccessful, and you walk away empty-handed. Golf bettors across Canada should be familiar with parlay bets as it was the only form of sports punting permitted until April 2022.
βοΈ Prop Bets
Prop bets refer to specific outcomes during a golf tournament and are typically structured on the lowest score on a hole between a 2 or 3-ball.
Let’s use Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, and Rickie Fowler. The three tee off together, and bettors can call the lowest score on a hole between the group or determine what score each player will make.
For example, I back Thomas to make birdie or better on the 7th hole, so I accept the odds and place the bet. In addition, I also feel that Thomas’ birdie will be better than what Spieth and Fowler make. As a result, I also back Thomas to win the 7th hole in his 3-ball.
βοΈ Futures
Futures golf bets allow you to make a prediction for something that may occur in months or years to come. Futures bets range from predicting a Major Tournament winner in a calendar year to finishing in the top 10 of every big tournament.
Popular futures bets for 2024 include Collin Morikawa winning a major, where his average odds are 7/1. If you think those are tough odds, the bookies offer 1.50/1 for Jon Rahm to bag his second major title this year. There are superior odds available for riskier bets, like backing a player to finish in the top five of every major, a feat last achieved by Rickie Fowler in 2014.
There is the option of a futures bet for a top-10 finish in all four majors, something Rory McIlroy managed in 2022.
How Do Odds Work for Golf Betting?
Golf betting odds work in a similar way to other sports betting odds. The odds represent the likelihood of a specific outcome occurring and determine the amount of money you can potentially win from a bet.
In golf, the most common type of bet is picking the tournament winner.
Remember that odds can change leading up to and during a tournament based on various factors such as player performance, weather conditions, and other betting activity.
The more money bettors throw at a particular player, the lower the odds.
Like simple supply and demand, as money comes in for a golfer, the potential return on investment decreases.
For example, Jon Rahm starts the Players Championship at 700, which is 7 to 1:
- For every $10 you bet, you can win $70.
- As the tournament progresses, Rahm remains atop the leaderboard, and punters are confident he will win. They back him, and his price drops to 100.
- Now if you back him to win, you receive 1/1 odds. In other words, you only win $1 for every $1 you bet. At this price, the bet is no longer worth it.
What Are The Top Golf Events to Bet on in 2024?
Golf betting sites give you access to multiple tournaments across the globe to maximize your chances every weekend.
The four menβs Majors are the biggest weekends on the golf calendar, but every two years, we are treated to team events like the Ryder Cup for men and the Solheim Cup for women.
Outside of major events, there are weekly tournaments on the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, LPGA Tour, and the PGA Tour Champions.
Plus, there are occasional annual LIV Golf and Challenge Tour events for you to enjoy.
There are four annual Major golf tournaments on the calendar. The first event is the coveted Master’s tournament before moving on to challenging courses at the PGA Championship and US Open.
The season now concludes with the historic Open Championship, which was previously the penultimate golf Major of the year up until 2019.
π Masters Tournament
The Masters tee-off is on Thursday, April 11th, and concludes on Sunday, April 14th, featuring the smallest and most exclusive field of the big tournaments.
π PGA Championship
In May, the Majors move northwest to Louisville, Kentucky. Valhalla hosts the PGA Championship from the 13th to the 19th of the month. This is the venue of Rory McIlroyβs last major victory, which occurred 10 years ago.
The course is long, stretching beyond 7,500 yards, and the abundance of water and thick rough requires accuracy off the tee and on approach.
π US Open
The Major tournaments venture east to the famed Pinehurst No.2 course in June for the penultimate showcase of 2024. The US Open begins on June 13th and concludes on Sunday, June 16th, in North Carolina. Martin Kaymer claimed his second major championship the last time the US Open was played here in 2014.
An all-round game is required to conquer Pinehurst No.2 with tight fairways and no mercy for long or wayward approach shots. When Kaymer won, he was 8 shots clear of Rickie Fowler and Erik Compton, who finished the tournament on -1 under par. Highlighting the difficulty of the layout.
π The Open Championship
The Open Championship concludes the men’s Major golf season for 2024 as the game’s best flock to Royal Troon. The 152nd edition of golf’s oldest Major gets underway on the 18th of July, and the winner will lift the claret jug on Sunday, the 21st.
Statistics to consider for the Open are players who handle windy conditions, exceptional putters over 25 feet, and the best scramblers. In addition, the daunting pot bunkers cannot be overlooked, which require impressive sand save percentage and proximity to the cup from the sand.
More Golf Events to Bet On
Besides the most lucrative events in golf, there are weekly, monthly, or bi-annual golf events, which offer plenty of betting action in the regular season.
β The PGA Tour hosts 47 weekly tournaments per year, including the regular season and FedEx Cup playoffs.
β The DPWorld Tour hosts 39 events
β The LPGA is on for 33 weeks per annum
Other golf tours include the PGA Tour Champions, LIV Golf, and the Challenge Tour. Plus, 2024 is a notable year, featuring the famed President’s Cup between the USA and the Internationals.
β PGA Tour
With 47 events throughout the year, the PGA Tour offers bettors a wealth of opportunities. However, access to these events may vary depending on your preferred betting site. If you can only catch one Tour event in 2024, I recommend the Players Championship.
The Players Championship
The Players Championship is hosted annually at the TPC Players Stadium Course, with a total winner’s purse of $25 Million.
The challenging Championship golf course features the iconic par 3 17th island green. Previous results have shown winners to gain superior strokes off the tee and an accurate long game from beyond 275 yards out.
β LIV Golf
LIV Golf has 14 events for 2024, with the ultimate event, the Team Championship, concluding on September 22nd at a yet-to-be-determined venue.
The Grange Golf Club Adelaide
From April 26th to 28th, the Australian golf fans will flock to the Grange Golf Club in Adelaide for a memorable weekend. The World Golf Awards labelled it the World’s Best Golf Event in 2023, and it is set to be another exciting event for fans and players alike.
6 Golf Betting Tips & Strategies
I bet on golf games with a small amount of money and use multiple tips to maximize my earnings.
For example,
- I once bet C$10 on Justin Rose to win the Sony Open at 2500 odds.
- Then I bet on Matt Kuchar to finish in the top five and won C$120 with a C$10 bet.
- I also bet on other things like hole winners and matchups.
- I usually keep my bets under C$100 per weekend and choose the best golfer by looking at their past performance, the golf course layout, and the weather forecast.
Here is a more detailed account of what I look for when selecting a golfer to win outright, finish in the top five, and win match-up bets:
β Tip 1: Study the course
I look at the fairway and green grass strains and how each player previously performed on them. Then, I identify the core statistics of previous winners on that course, including FIR, GIR, strokes gained, scrambling, and putting average. If a golf course is long, I will likely favor longer hitters with a fair accuracy record.
β Tip 2: Look at recent form
I place weight on a golfer’s recent form, but it is not everything. A professional golfer has the ability to come right at any time. However, a player in form obviously has more confidence and a favorable chance of performing well. Conversely, it is difficult for a struggling player to overcome the mental hurdle to thrive in a big event.
β Tip 3: Check the weather
I always check the weather forecast before making bets because some golfers perform better in one condition over another. If the weather is rainy, I will look for attractive odds on Matt Fitzpatrick to win match-ups and score the lowest round. The Englishman thrives in the wet.
β Tip 4: Pay attention to the odds
The odds are an excellent way to gauge the perceived chances of each golfer. If I see the odds are 100 or lower, I steer clear of the bet because the payout is not worth the wager. Instead, I scan the live-betting odds to identify favorable odds on quality players.
β Tip 5: Follow golf news and commentary
I constantly scan the internet, searching for the latest news and analysis about golf to stay informed about every player and event. This helps me make better-informed betting decisions and avoid the risk of backing injured or out-of-focus golfers.
β Tip 6: Use statistics wisely
There are many statistics available for golfers, but not all are relevant for every tournament. If I had to use one source, I would suggest the PGA Tour stats site. It boasts a trove of historical performance data to help you make better golf betting decisions.
What Role Does Player Form Play in Golf Betting?
The first and most crucial factor to consider is the form of the player. Golf is a momentum sport. When a player is firing, they can keep that going for weeks. Jon Rahm recorded six consecutive top-10 finishes until the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March 2023. Conversely, when a player is struggling in a season, they are typically last on your list of possibilities.
βοΈ What other Factors Can Affect the Outcome of a Golf Bet?
Other factors influencing a golf bet include weather, time of day, fairway and green grass strains, and the course design. When it rains and is windy, it requires different tactics such as lower ball flight, more club, and precise distance control and accuracy. If your chosen player struggles in these conditions, it can lead to painful losses.
βοΈ Understanding the Different Golf Tours
Different golf tours feature players of varying skill levels, with the PGA and LPGA Tours at the peak of men’s and women’s golf. If a player enjoys a comfortable lead on these tours, there is always the chance of a quality opponent making a comeback, which means you may want to shop for some attractive outside odds.
However, on circuits like the Challenge Tour, the rest of the field may struggle to fight back from a significant deficit. As a result, the odds of any impressive paydays are diminished.
βοΈ Shop Different Odds?
A final feature to consider is shopping different odds because golf betting sites can offer varying odds for the same bet. Obviously, to maximize your winning potential, you want the best odds.
If a golfer is 6/1 on one site and 7/1 on another, you want the site with the latter odds. Placing $10 on 7/1 odds gives you a shot at earning $70 over the $60 from the 6/1 odds.
Brief History of Golf Betting
The idea of gambling in golf is far from new. According to the famous writer John Steinbreder, history tells us it was first introduced in the 1680s in Scotland. Golf betting has evolved to entertain various types of bets, previously unimaginable in the professional game.
It has grown steadily since, as it offers bettors the chance to bet a little and win handsomely.
Betting on golf encountered an accelerated transformation since 2017 when the PGA Tour commissioner overturned years of opposition to gambling in the sport. Since Monahan assumed office, the Tour has signed an agreement making DraftKings the official betting operator and fantasy league of the PGA, enabling golf fans to back a winner or a top 5 or 10 finishers.
The initial pilot of PGA-bless golf betting paved the way for punters to place prop bets and back their preferred player in matchups. Golf betting accounted for $150 million in wagers in 2019.
π‘ How Has Golf Betting Changed Over Time?
Golf betting has undergone significant changes over time, particularly with the advent of online sports betting. Here are some ways that golf betting has evolved:
Legislation
Although Canada has permitted sports betting since 1986, they restricted your options to parlay bets. Online sports betting, including golf wagers, opened to the people of Ontario in April 2022, enabling bettors to place single-game wagers on various sports.
The relaxation of online sports betting legislation follows the 2020 PGA Tour decision to make DraftKings their first official betting operator.
Online Bets
Before the convenience of online golf betting, you had to frequent your lottery facilities to place a parlay bet. Golf betting sites now simplify the process by allowing you to place a wager from your mobile phone and link your bank or PayPal account to finance your bets.
The advent of online golf betting ultimately saves bettors time, improves convenience, and saves them from having to leave home. This helps bettors to focus on research and analysis to become experts on golf and make better-informed decisions.
Types of Bets
Previously, golf betting required picking a single player in the field to win or finish within the top 5, 10, or 20 for the event. Today, we have a wealth of bets, including the top finisher from a specific country, or pick one player to score lower than another on a given day.
Golf betting sites offer members the chance to place parlay wagers or prop bets. If you have done your analysis, you may consider the high-risk, high-reward strategy of a futures bet, for example, calling a player to win a Major at the start of the season.
Bettors focused on short-term success can bet on whether a golfer will card a birdie or better on a specific hole. Given the specificity of the micro-market bet, you can expect low odds, especially for in-form golfers.
Access to Data
Bettors are blessed with a wealth of data sources to access player statistics, weather details, and golf course data. The PGA Tour has a robust set of parameters for each player, enabling users to view past results at different courses.
In addition, it displays a selection of statistics ranging from strokes gained, distance, scrambling putting, and performances on par 3, 4, and 5 holes. The array of statistics enables punters to conduct an advanced analysis of each tour golfer, resulting in responsible gambling and better-informed decisions.
Regulated Gambling
The growing popularity of online golf betting has forced authorities to better police the industry to protect bettors in their respective locations. Given the importance of responsible betting on secure platforms, we only recommend placing wagers on sites licensed by your national or provincial gambling authority.
Previously, the market was open and limited policing was done to ensure consumers were protected and betting operators acted ethically. The world has learned from previous challenging experiences to provide a safe and secure platform for sports bettors.
How to Bet on Golf Responsibly
Golf betting can be an exciting and fun hobby, but it’s important to approach it responsibly and with caution.
In this section, I’ll go through some tips on how to bet on golf responsibly so you can enjoy the experience without risking more than you can afford to lose. Remember, betting should always be a form of entertainment, not a way to make a fortune.
π Set A Limit
I set aside C$100 a week for golf gambling because it is money I can afford to lose. Once I reach my C$100 quota, I stop – win or lose. This prevents the urge to gamble more, and I feel in total control of the situation.
π Do Your Research
Golf gambling is a hobby, but you should still do your research before wagering. I recommend checking the PGA Tour Stats sites to see your prospective bet’s past performances.
π Bet For Fun
I recommend betting for fun with money you can afford to lose. Do not get into golf betting to try and make your fortune. If you bet for fun, it will remain a hobby, and it reduces the time you dedicate to the activity.
π Do Not Borrow
Never borrow money to gamble. This means you are gambling money you cannot afford to lose, leading to catastrophic consequences. If you have reached this point or know someone going down this path, seek assistance from Connex Ontario.
Expert’s Conclusion: Is It Worth Betting on Golf?
I’m a huge fan of golf, and I always look forward to watching the Masters for four days straight. To make things more exciting, I love to indulge in some leisure golf gambling. Online golf betting sites offer a wide range of bets at favorable odds, which I take advantage of by placing multiple bets throughout the weekend.
If you don’t have the time to watch all four days of golf, you can still place outright bets like tournament winner, top five, ten, or twenty.
Expert Tip! Pick The Right Golf Betting Site For You
Betting on golf is worth it because it adds an extra element of excitement to the weekend. Whether you’re a die-hard fan like me or just an occasional spectator, golf betting offers a chance of a handsome payday.
For experienced sports bettors, I would recommend BetMGM Sports. But if you’re new to the game, Northstar Bets Sports is easy to use and a great option.
